Define Channel Sample Settings

To access this screen:

  • Select the Settings button on the Channel Samples panel.
  • Activate the Draw (Channels) ribbon and select Settings >> Control

This screen is used to define the sample generation settings that will be used to distribute channel sample limit positions along a map channel.

This applies to new channels and existing channels if used in combination with the Validate command (where settings are reapplied to existing samples of the selected map).

Tip: If you are using a portable device, automatically display a screen keyboard for easier data entry at the face. Enable screen keyboard mode using the Setup ribbon's On-Screen Keyboard command.

To define channel sample layouts within a channel:

  1. Using the Mapping Task Bar, activate the Channel Samples panel.

Note: the Channel Samples panel is only accessible if your system configuration file defines prerequisite properties.

  2. Specify a sample Target length for the channel. This is the target length for individual samples. Sample lines will ideally be divided into segments of this length. This value must be greater than 0. You can use the spin buttons for refinement.
  3. Specify a sample Min. length. This is the minimum permitted sample length. No sample will be created that has length less than this value. This value must be greater than 0.

  4. Define a Min. Increment. This is the amount by which a sample start/end will move when edited, using the Edit Channel command.

  5. Click OK.

The Channel Samples grid highlights any LENGTH values less than the specified Min. length in red. These sub-permitted values are typically the result of interactive editing after the channel has been generated.
